Batsi / Mpatsi (Andros)

Batsi is Andros’s main holiday town. However Andros isn’t the easiest island to get to. So as holiday towns go, it’s a small conservative place. The sort that appeals to those holiday makers that like their vacations predictable and so return year after year.

Batsi’s main attraction is the sandy beach that rings the bay. It’s rarely hard to get a sunbed but if you do want somewhere quieter there are other coves with walking distance.

It’s a convenient place from which to explore the island. Both cars and bikes are available for hire.

The east of the island has a number of springs. These have produced a number of waterfalls. One of the best, Remata is a short distance inland from Batsi.

Close to Remata is the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi. Here you can see wall paintings and there’s a small museum. Further south, there’s the Cylades Olive Oil Museum, where you can see the traditional way of producing olive oil.

If you want to explore further afield, there are several museums in Andros’s capital, Chora. Towards the south of the island, around Korthi, you can also see over 40 windmills, once the island’s power house.

Back in the town, there’s  good selection of restaurants and cafes. As well as traditional fare, there are pizza and spaghetti options. Provisions are readily available in town though if you want a large supermarket you’ll need to head out of town.
