Take a Learn to Sail course from Poros (Peloponnese) or Lefkas (Ionian) in Greece, or from Split in Croatia. Sail training can be done by joining other students on a tuition yacht, or by own yacht tuition, with a yacht and instructor exclusively for your party on you choice of yacht. Most courses run for 6 days (7 nights aboard) and they are conducted in English.
Note that RYA rules limit the number of people per yacht to 5 plus the Instructor for all RYA practical courses. Courses can be mixed on the same yacht.
Courses start on Saturdays from the island of Poros, about an hours ferry ride from Athens. The nearest airport is Athens. Transfers can be arranged between Athens airport or city centre and Poros as an optional extra.
Courses on the tuition yachts include provisions for breakfast and light lunch, and the running costs of the yacht (fuel, mooring fees), including the instructor.
Own yacht tuition prices are for the instructor – you need to add the cost of the yacht (get in touch for the latest offers). The instructor will require his own cabin and you are required to feed him (or provide for the price of a typical meal if you prefer not to take him for dinner).
With own yacht tuition, you can sail in company with the flotilla. The tuition yachts do not normally sail with the flotilla.

For part week courses, you will be required to pay the cost of getting the instructor back to Poros.

5 day courses for RYA Competent Crew, Day Skipper Practical, Coastal and Yachtmaster preparation run during the week. Weekend courses for Rusty Skippers, Mile Building and ICC preparation and assessment run starting Friday night.
These courses are offered by a UK based flotilla company so the Instructors will be sensitive to your future sailing plans. So if you would like some practice at reversing (in preparation for Mediterranean moorings) just ask.
Courses include provisions for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the running costs of the yacht (fuel, etc), including the instructor. Mooring fees once away from the base are shared between participants (typically about £40 for a 5 day course. Free car parking is also included.
The yacht takes up to 5 students in 2 double cabins and the saloon berth. If there is a group of you, it is possible to book the whole yacht exclusively for your use – ask for a quote.
Typical prices are £370 for a weekend course and £780 for a 5 day course, based on two people sharing a cabin. There is a single supplement for sole use of a cabin. Wet weather gear and sleeping bags can be hired.
