For those that find the pace of cruising a bit slow, you can charter a yacht and take part in a race or regatta.
There are numerous events in the Caribbean with some proper race yachts on offer – more details to follow in the near future. There are a number of events in the Western Mediterranean – again, more soon.
In the Eastern Mediterranean, the opportunities are more limited but those that exist are perhaps more focussed at the charter market, so you’re less likely to find yourself trounced by high tech kit. The three main events all take place around the same time.
- The Beneteau Blue Cup, starts the last weekend of October and sees around 50 yachts racing around the Saronic and Argolic Gulfs for a week.
- Marmaris Race Week, also starts the last weekend of October with racing based out of Marmaris, Turkey. Entry was limited to 145 yachts last year and it was fully booked.
- Poros Race Weekend is the last weekend of October. This is a far smaller affair with around 15 yachts taking part in races around the bay and around Poros Island, Greece.
If you’re interested in taking part in any of the above, contact me for more details.
