Meljine / Zelenica

Meljine is a small holiday town just east of Hercog Novi. It is known for its fortress built in 1732 by the Venetians. This soon became home to the main military hospital for the area. Recovery was apparently aided by the holy water supply that flowed down from Savina church.

Through the hospital no longer serves the military, it is still in use, having been significantly developed in the 1970’s. And you can still visit the church too.

The town is now blessed with a modern marina. Lazure Marina even has its own small beach. There are 3 supermarkets withing a few minutes walk. There is also a bakery and a small fresh market.

There are plenty of restaurants and cafes. The nightlife is best described as subdued. Those wanting more excitement are recommended to take a stroll along the coastal walk to Hercog Novi, just 3km away.

Melinje is just a short distance west of Zelenica. Zelenica is a port of entry and the Customs facilities are handy for those arriving from Croatia. However, there are no facilities to overnight there so many people make the short hop to Meljine once they’ve checked in.
