Tucked in behind the Sivota Islands of Nikolaos, Mavros Notos and Sivota itself, lies the harbour of Mourtos with its recently refurbished sea front set against the green woodland behind.
Neither these renovations nor a scattering of holiday centres along nearby shores have spoilt this small town which is well worth a visit.
For those fancying a night at anchor, the area offers plenty of options. There are a number of nearby bays, all close enough that after a peaceful night you can still sail into harbour for breakfast!
It’s an unpretentious but friendly place with a selection of cafe’s and restaurants along the front. There are basic provisions here too though a better selection a bit further in to town. A bank with ATM, post office and chandlers complete the picture.
There are no particular must see sights in Mourtos. But it’s a very acceptable place to while away an evening and its lack of prominence is more a reflection on the many alternative attractions in the Ionian than an indication of any deficiencies in the place itself.
