Kassiopi (Corfu)

Officially a village, Kassiopi is more like a small town. The settlement is focused around the harbour. As well as the usual tavernas and bars, there are banks with ATM’s, doctors, pharmacies and supermarkets. It’s a good place to stock up on your cruise.

Kassiopi dates back to 5BC. The Church of the Panayia Kassopitra overlooks the harbour and dates back to 1590. It is built in the site of the temple of Kassios Zeus which dated back to at least the 5th century. Also overlooking the harbour is the Castle, dating from Byzantine times.

Like everywhere in Corfu, you’re never far from a beach. The nearest are Bataria beach and just beyond, Kanoni beach. Both are within a short walk north of the village.

Come nightfall, Kassiopi can be quite a lively place. There are clubs and bars suitable for the younger generation. However, it’s not a stag/hen party type destination and mum and dad will find a good selection of venues more in tune with their times.

As befits a holiday destination, there are hotels and apartments aplenty and the place can seem a bit manic in high season. If you prefer life a bit quieter, it’s nicer once the summer hordes have departed. None the less it’s a handy place to provision and never so raucous as to be offensive.
