Akbuk Koyu (Gokova Gulf)

A beautiful tree lined bay in a superb setting at the foot of the mountains. The bay is ringed by a long beach, unfortunately not sand but still a great launch spot for a dip in the cool green waters.

Akbuk Koyu: Boats on the jetty

One suspects that before the yachts came there was nothing here but a few fishing boats and a couple of shacks. Certainly apart from the staff at the two restaurants, most of the Turks here are fellow holidaymakers. In fact the place has the rare distinction of being the only village in Turkey I’ve visited by car that I had to pay to get in to!

No matter, the place is a gem. The jetty isn’t huge but the place doesn’t seem to get too busy and there’s heaps of space to anchor should you find otherwise. Beyond the restaurants the entertainment is down to you.  There are no shops but some nice walks to be had through the cool pine forest on the south side of the bay.
