Datca: Boats on the quay with the town behind

This is a small town of contrasts. Walk around the harbour to the sandy beach and it’s a tranquil harbour town. Head in to the town itself and it’s a thriving commercial centre. Moor opposite the bars and come evening it’s a thriving tourist spot. Fortunately, it’s too far from an airport to have suffered the worst ravages of tourism.

So there’s something for everyone. You can swim in the hot water springs, visit the amphitheatre, laze on the beaches or hit the shops. There are several small supermarkets, with a larger one on the edge of town. Bakeries, butchers, chemists, banks with ATM’s, a post office and of course the obligatory carpet shop or two are all available.

The harbour contains a number of bars and restaurants. Prices are cheaper if you eat on the street behind the front, though it’s not quite as pretty.

Datca is an interesting place to explore and if you’re short of time, also a good base for a road trip to Knidos – the local travel agents will be happy to assist you.
