Port Atheni is a bay on the north east of the island of Meganisi. The bay is surrounded by olive trees. During the day it’s a popular swim stop but things get much more peaceful later on.
In the south east corner of the bay there’s a quay with room for about a dozen yachts. One of the tavernas also has a jetty taking a similar number. However, the water round the jetty is fairly shallow so you are better heading for the quay if you draw over about 1.5m
There’s a smaller bay off the main area, in the north west. A submerged reef extends out about 200m from the small headland that divides this bay from the main bay. There are plenty of places to anchor around the bay.
Facilities shore re limited. Aside from the taverna there is a cafe and behind that, a mini market. For more facilities, a steep climb up from the quay tkes you to the traditional village of Katomeri. This is the highest point of the island, and very unspoilt as few tourists take the trouble to climb up there! It takes about 15 minutes if you’re fit, somewht longer if you are not!
