Polis is a pretty bay on the west side of Ithaca, ringed with a shingle beach and popular with swimming parties thanks to the clear waters. Yachtsmen see it at its best – after the beach has emptied at the end of the day. you also have the luxury of the shade on your yacht, which can be a bit lacking for beach dwellers.
Polis has just one taverna on the quay. For anything else you’ll need to head to the town of Stavros, about half a mile inland. Sites are also rather thin on the ground. A number of archaeological treasures were found in the Cave of Louizos and you can walk up to the site. However, the cave itself has now collapsed.
The bay has a small jetty from where local fishermen and trip boats operate, but yachts anchor, usually with a line ashore.
