West of Sami lies the beautiful bay of Antisamos. The long beach wraps around the bay, at the foot of lush green hills. The bay is famed as one of the locations for the film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin
The beach lacks shade so the sun loungers and umbrellas provided are welcome. A couple of beach bars will keep you refreshed. Various watersports are available.
For some exercise, take a walk up one of the hills behind the beach to the monastery of Panayia Agrilia. This offers good views over to Ithaca. The monastery, built in the 18th century has now been abandoned by the monks who once lived there. Perhaps they were lead astray by the attraction of the watersports!
