Milina was once a fishing and sponge diving centre, but is now unashamedly an international tourist resort, albeit fairly small scale. During the day, there are plenty of activities for both the energetic and the less so, from watersports to monasteries. Come the evening, those wanting a bit of night life will not be disappointed, whilst others will be happy to watch the excellent sunsets.
The sandy beach along the front is backed with plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes. You’ll also find beaches, restaurants and provisions around Vathudi bay south of the town too. This is where most yacht charter boats moor or anchor.
If lying on the beach is too sedate, there are water sports, cycle rides and some excellent walks. Culture vultures are spoilt for choice: Just out of the village up the hill are the ruins of the ancient city of Olizon. On the island of Alatas opposite the town is the monastery of Agioi Saranta. On the islet west of this, Prasouda, is the monastery of Zoodochou Pigi. There are also a couple of churches in Milina itself.
Whether you’re on flotilla or a bareboat charter, looking for some action or some relaxation, Milina is worth a visit.
