Gocek bareboat route; Fethiye Bay – 1 week

Easy sailing with a Gocek Yacht Charter

This Gocek bareboat route takes you around the beautiful and relatively sheltered Gocek and Fethiye bays. A Gocek yacht charters offers a range of options but this is one of the easiest routes allowing plenty of time for swim stops. You’ll also have time to call in for lunch at some of the other bay restaurants.

The suggested route visits many of the “one restaurant” bays though with so many to choose from it would be easy to switch around. I’ve included a call in to Fethiye mid week to re-provision as beyond bread and the odd jar of honey there’s not much in the bays.

  • Gocek
Once a small village of no importance, Gocek is now a major hub for sailors thanks to it’s proximity to Dalaman airport, 25 minutes drive away. It’s still small, but has a good selection of mini markets around the square and along the main street. Restaurants and bars fill the tree lined esplanade, but you can ...

  • Tomb Bay
So called because of the tombs cut in the hillside overlooking the bay. You can take a walk up the hill to see the tombs at close quarter, an experience you may find yourself sharing with the local goats. The bays’s other claim to fame is the excellent barber who also provides first rate massages without ...

  • Cold Water Bay / Bestas Limani / Kalevezi Koyu
The bay is named after the fresh water springs that make for a cooling swim. There’s a single restaurant offering some provisions set on the hill overlooking the bay. Highly recommended is a walk to the abandoned Greek village of Kayakoy, last inhabited in the 1920’s but still remarkably intact. The family run restaurant offers similar fare ...

  • Fethiye
This popular tourist town is something of a contrast to the many one restaurant bays in the area. As well as the obligatory souvenir shops, you’ll also find local artists and cartoonists who set up their stalls on the front near the town centre. To sooth your aching muscles, there’s also a Turkish bath. Culture vultures will find ...

  • 22 Fathom Cove
And now for something completely different! A restaurant afloat, run by Gocek Bay’s local eccentric, Ragip and his long suffering wife. You’ll spot him immediately in his bearskin hat and if he really likes you he’ll show you his extensive gun collection! Ragip used to run the excellent restaurant at Cleopatra’s Bay, until the authorities deemed ...

  • Sarsala
Tucked in amongst the pine trees, this is another one restaurant bay. The speciality here is pide, traditional Turkish pizza which is served as a starter. The restaurant also offers home made pine honey which makes a better souvenir than some of the tat available in the souvenir shops in many of the larger towns. Those feeling ...

Sailing Conditions

Winds are typically force 3-4. It’s usually fairly windless first thing. During the morning the strength increases reaching a peak after lunch. There’s little variation until early evening when the wind dies to next to nothing, often quite suddenly.

In high season, the Meltemi winds can be a little gusty but within the Fethiye/Gocek Bay area (also called Skopea Limani) you’re never far from shelter making a Gocek yacht charter ideal for the less experienced. And with the various islands breaking the wind flow, the wind direction can be rather variable which makes for some interesting sailing.

Gocek Bareboat Charter Choices

Gocek yacht charter options range from 30 to 57 feet. There are a number of marinas in Gocek but all are within walking distance of the village with the exception of Club Marina which is linked by a water taxi (though it doesn’t run very late in to the evening).

All the Gocek bareboat operators offer skippered charter.

Gocek bareboats are popular because of the close proximity to Dalaman Airport but if you can’t find the yachts you’re looking for, it’s not much further to Fethiye which gives you access to the same waters.
