The Sporades flotillas centre on the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Krya Panagia. There’s brisk sailing around the islands and westward in to the Gulf of Volos. This is more difficult flotilla sailing than some Greece flotillas so some previous experience is recommended.
The ports are mainly small traditional towns and sleepy fishing villages. The exceptions are the holiday towns of Skiathos, Skopelos and to a lesser extent, Patitiri. There are a number of smaller uninhabited islands to explore, such as Yioura and Peristeri.
In the Gulf of Volos, the Sporades flotillas visit a number of lovely stops on the Pelion flotilla route. These are rarely visited by international tourists because of their inaccessibility.
Sporades flotilla holidays offer a number of excellent beaches. Around Kyria Panangia and Yioura is a designated nature reserve. This is the breeding ground of the rare Monk Seals. Look out for them.

About the Sporades Flotilla
The Sporades flotilla visits the beautiful islands of Skopelos, Alonissos and Kira Panagia. There’s the option to visit Skiathos or Peristera too.
The area is renowned for it’s small whitewashed villages and sandy beaches. It shot to fame as the location for the filming of the Abba inspired Mamma Mia.
Though a popular holiday area, the crowds thin the further away from Skiathos you go. And the advantage of being on a yacht is you will reach the quiet places where the ferries don’t go.

About the Skiathos flotilla
The Skiathos flotilla explores the Sporades islands in the east, through to the Gulf of Volos in the west.
This is one of Greece’s quieter sailing areas. The bases around the islands have limited capacity and the more extensive facilities in Volos are hard to get to. So you can enjoy this beautiful area without rushing in to get a berth each night.
Around the islands you will find the further east you go, the quieter it gets, most tourists being happy to stay on Skiathos.

More about the Sporades flotillas
These are now the only flotillas in regular operation from the islands. The flotilla sail from Loutraki on Skopelos (also known as Glossa).

The nearest airport is Skiathos. This small airport has limited services from the UK on many days. So unusually, the flotilla is a Friday start, as that’s the day with the most flights.
Skopelos is the first island east of Skiathos. You can get there by ferry; there are a number every day. The ferries drop off in the same port where the flotilla is based. If you arrive after the last ferry, you can take a water taxi but these are expensive for smaller parties.
The flotilla operator offers transfers via the ferry or, if you arrive after the last ferry, by water taxi (at no extra charge). These work out a bit more expensive than if you make your own way via the ferry but can be a good insurance against flight delays which my force you to use a water taxi. Flight hold ups are not unknown as the limited parking spaces for planes means a problem with one can knock on to other arrivals.
Yachts available range from 33ft to 50ft. The fleet is a bit lacking in larger 4 and 5 cabin yachts with just one of each. So larger groups are encouraged to book early.
